General Purpose Engineering Plastics

This rapidly growing family of versatile materials contains the most cost effective alternatives to traditional materials such as metal and wood in lower temperature applications. Overall, these materials exhibit good mechanical strength, impact resistance, wear properties, dimensional stability, and great machinability.

With its high strength, low friction, and chemical resistance, Delrin or Acetal is the choice for many industrial applications such as bushings, bearings, rollers, gears, and insulators. This material is also FDA compliant for food processing applications.

Nylon is a great material for tough applications that require compressive strength, stiffness, abrasion resistance, and slightly elevated temperatures. Additives and fillers such as glass or lubricants can be added to increase strength, reduce friction, and improve heat resistance. Common applications are wear pads, sheaves, equipment stand liners, valve bodies, downhole nose cones, gears, and bushings. Natural Nylon is also FDA approved.

For more corrosive applications, PVC provides a combination of high chemical resistance, low flammability, great machinability, and cost effectiveness. Common applications include filtration components, pump/valve components, corrosive tank parts, and common mechanical components such as spacers or stiffeners.
